Road Districts Join Preparedness Month Coalition

The Illinois Township Road Districts today announced they have joined the National Preparedness Month Coalition, which is sponsored by the Ready Campaign in partnership with Citizen Corps and the Ad Council. The coalition promotes emergency preparedness during National Preparedness Month, which is held every September.
The eighth annual NPM will kickoff this September, using the slogan: "A Time to Remember. A Time to Prepare." The campaign seeks to transform awareness into action by encouraging all Americans to take the necessary steps to ensure that their homes, workplaces and communities are prepared for disasters and emergencies of all kinds.
"This September marks the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks," said Township Road District Public Information Officer Eddy Weiss. "For a year our road districts have been focusing in-house on disasters of every kind in light of the disasters that have been so prevalent here in our State. Joining the coalition and publicly making a commitment to prepare our communities seemed like the next logical step."
"This is not going to be just a September involvement for us," stated Weiss. "This September, we will honor the memories of those lost eight years ago while kicking off what we hope to be a year of preparedness campaigns that will touch every home in our Townships."
According to the National Ad Council, 91% of Americans believe it's important to be prepared for emergencies. However, only 58% of households report having taken any steps at all to prepare.
The Road Districts plan on launching a new website before September that will coincide with a new social media campaign using FaceBook to provide preparedness information and materials to their constituents. Many of the districts are already making plans to host preparedness events in their communities throughout the remainder of 2011 and into 2012
